I love adding beautiful items to my jewelry box that I can use in different ways. In one of those desperate moments of accessorizing in a hurry, I discovered that one of my favorite hair pins also made a lovely shawl pin...and an inspiration was born!
This sterling silver pin features a Celtic knot measuring 2.5 inches in diameter that has been gently rounded to accommodate either a shawl, a scarf, or your favorite hair style. The sterling silver pin is measures around 4 inches in length with a sparlking, round 6 mm faceted gemstone set as an accent. This stone has been carefully mounted and the end of the pin has been has been gently rounded so it doesn't snag or catch. The pin in the picture shown above features a 6 mm lab grown emerald Green Spinel, but this pin can be created with your choice of stone.
This rounded knot is traditionally known as the lover's knot because the two strands are said to represent the consistency of two lovers. Celtic knots are some of the most recognizable artwork in all of history. They started appearing after about 450 AD, drawn and redrawn in manuscripts and as emblems - everything from decorations to jewelry. Although there are endless debates on the meanings of individual knots, the overall interconnection and endlessness make these special art forms uniquely suited to the symbolism of love.
