This timeless Sterling Silver vintage-style Blue Sapphire solitaire engagement ring features a 6 mm (approximately 1 carat) sparkling laboratory-grown Blue Sapphire securely held in a six-prong mounting. This has been the archetypical engagement ring style since its introduction in 1886. This ring features delicate shoulder detailing, and tapers gracefully to a 1 mm wide band. Although this ring isn't wide enough for our inside ring engraving, it pairs well with many of the other bands we offer!
Ruby and Sapphire have been laboratory grown for over 100 years. This process provides stones that are chemically identical to their natural cousins, but without the environmental damage or steep price that can go with a natural stone of the same size and quality. Sapphire is the birthstone of September, and this ring makes a beautiful birthstone ring, an lovely promise or engagement ring, or just a special love token.
When I first began working at the jewelry store that was my first job, I was puzzled to learn that the typical four-prong solitaire mounting that I had grown up seeing was actually considered one of the least secure ring mountings. The jeweler would often shake his head over the number of these broken mountings that found their way across his bench.
The reasoning was simple. With a four-prong mounting, if one of the prongs becomes damaged there is a fairly good chance that the stone may be lost. However, with a six-prong mounting, losing or damaging a prong will not lead to loss and sorrow - there are five other prongs that hold the stone safe.
